| In
the sixteenth century Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu said that in the future
Krishna consciousness would be spread across the globe. For most of
the centuries since then that has seemed a highly unlikely idea.
However, since Srila Prabhupada, in direct disciplic succession
from Sri Caitanya, founded the International Society for Krishna
Consciousness (ISKCON) it has grown to include 300 temples, 40 rural
communities, and 80 restaurants in 71 countries.
People
worldwide are given the opportunity to pursue spiritual life according
to their abilities and can pursue Krishna conscious culture within
their own culture and in their own language.
ISKCON centres can cover a wide range of activities from temple
worship to preaching, book distribution, farming, free food distribution,
restaurants, education, and more. There is plenty of scope in the
types of activities that can be offered as service to Krishna, God.
ISKCON centres are autonomous bodies that place themselves under
the authority of ISKCON's Governing Body Commision (GBC). Centres
are affiliated with ISKCON by adhering to certain standards and
accepting the teachings of Srila Prabhupada as their basis. Click
