Type of centre: Student centre
Brief details and history of centre
| The Hare Krishna Student Centre
was formed in 1971 by a young student couple who had turned
their apartment into a peaceful place for students to practice
Bhakti Yoga.
In 1989 we moved to our current location at 214 NW 14th
St. Today the centre is home to several students who are learning
about vegetarian cooking, yoga, meditation and eastern philosophy,
based on the Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam

Since 1971, Krishna devotees have been distributing food on campus
at UF. Not surprisingly, we regularly meet people from all walks
of life who remember us from their starving student days. A couple
of kids recently told us that their parents, both UF alumni, recommended
they stop by and check us out. Hearing such stories warms our hearts
and inspires us to continue standing out there day after day, serving
you those delicious meals.
Other Information:
The Krishna Lunch program
Food for the Soul. The food we distribute on campus is offered to
God with love and devotion, turning it into prasadam: sanctified
food to nourish the soul. In our 5000-year-old tradition, distributing
sanctified food is a charitable act held in high esteem, which is
why you see us out on campus doing what we do.
Many students and non-students volunteer with us to fulfill their
community service hours for speeding tickets or for the Exceptional
People class at UF but anyone can volunteer with the Krishna Lunch
program and experience the bliss of serving others. Ideal for students
because the lunch is right on campus and our center is only two
blocks from the Plaza at UF.
